Sculpterra Winery & Sculpture Garden

Looking for a Simpler Life

Dr. Warren Frankel, along with his wife Kathy and their three children, moved to Paso Robles from the San Fernando Valley in 1979, seeking a simpler life. The Frankel family initially planted 20 acres of pistachios on their ranch and later followed up with 20 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. After achieving initial success with both crops, Dr. Frankel expanded the vineyard operation in 1997, adding more Cabernet Sauvignon along with 10 acres of Zinfandel and 10 acres of Merlot. The latest additions to the vineyard include Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah, and Viognier, further enhancing their offerings of ultra premium wines.

With the vision of creating a tasting room and winery that would highlight the estate vineyard fruit and serve as a destination for wine and art enthusiasts, Dr. Frankel began construction on the winery in 2006, opening its doors in October 2007. Today, Sculpterra proudly showcases an exquisite portfolio of ultra premium wines, alongside an impressive sculpture garden and fine art that ensure a memorable wine tasting experience for guests. Additionally, wine lovers can join the Sculpterra wine club for exclusive access to their assortment of wines.

In 2002, Dr. Frankel collaborated with fellow doctors to establish 'His Healing Hands,' a medical missionary foundation dedicated to sending teams on short-term trips worldwide to assist underserved populations across all five continents. They've also provided critical medical relief in response to disasters, including in Indonesia after the Tsunami, Pakistan following the earthquake, and Mississippi post-Hurricane Katrina. Learn more about Dr. Frankel’s humanitarian efforts in his new book, where a portion of the proceeds from Sculpterra wine sales are donated to 'His Healing Hands.'

Sculpterra Wines

2022 Cabenet Sauvignon

Bottle of Sculpterra 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon wine.

This elite Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles showcases the best fruit from two Frankel Vineyard Cabernet blocks. The concentrated dark fruit flavors and moderately to heavy tannins create a lasting finish. Aromas of black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, and olive tapenade dominate the nose. This wine is a classic example of what a reserve should taste like, embodying the essence of ultra premium wines. It's a mouth-filling experience with a nice gripping texture that complements the deep flavors of black cherry, vanilla, grilled meats, and a hint of black pepper. The fascinating bouquet includes notes of coffee, plum, violets, cedar, and spice. The palate is big and full yet remains soft and polished. Released in late 2023, it's instantly delicious and will continue to evolve beautifully through 2027, making it a perfect choice for members of the Sculpterra wine club.

2022 Figurine

Sculpterra 2022 Figurine Paso Robles wine bottle

What’s not to like about this Paso Robles wine? It has it all! For starters, it showcases delightful aromas of strawberry, black pepper, licorice, and crushed rock. The mouthfeel is beautifully held together by chalky tannins that leave the palate lengthy yet soft. This blend is complex yet refined, serving as a great example of a Paso Robles blend done right, and a testament to the quality you'd expect from the Sculpterra wine club's offerings. The palate bursts with dark raspberry alongside rosemary, sage, and oregano, while a smoky, oaky tension floats in the background. Dark fruit aromas of blueberry push against delicate floral notes. The new oak is seamlessly integrated, adding hints of vanilla, marshmallow, and campfire bouquets. The soft palate is exceptionally well-balanced, making this wine truly cellar worthy. Its best years are still ahead, with peak enjoyment expected between 2026 and 2031 for those who appreciate ultra premium wines.

2022 Pinot Noir

Bottle of 2022 Sculpterra Pinot Noir from Paso Robles.

This unique Pinot Noir from Sculpterra Winery is truly a Paso Robles treasure! Hard to grow and rare to find in the Paso Robles wine region, this Pinot Noir exemplifies the distinguished quality and splendor of ripe flavors and rich textures. The grapes were ripened in a hot summer climate, enhancing the wine's fruity characteristics. Overall, this wine has been vinified into a delicate masterpiece that tastes fantastic young and will age gracefully. The vineyard is notably distinctive, consistently producing flavors reminiscent of berry pie, herbal tea, and bittersweet chocolate. The color is a shade darker than typical California coastal Pinot Noirs, and the wine finishes with nice dimension and a well-rounded aftertaste. For members of the Sculpterra wine club, this ultra premium wine is one to savor, and I predict it will reach its peak taste by 2026.

2022 Primitivo

Bottle of 2022 Sculpterra Primitivo wine from Paso Robles Estate.

The 2022 Primitivo from Paso Robles showcases a delightful blend of old-world charm and new-world innovation, featuring peppery bouquets combined with oak toast and a variety of cola berry flavors. This integration of new oak enhances the wine's profile, revealing BBQ-smokey char alongside accents of vanilla and chocolate. Crafted entirely from 100% Primitivo and sourced from three distinct Primitivo lots, it elevates the complexity and depth of flavors. As a member of the Sculpterra wine club, I particularly appreciate the finish of this ultra premium wine! It lingers with delightful marshmallow and graham cracker notes, culminating in a smooth, supple mid-palate and a finish that is neither overly tannic nor tart.

Héroe Wines

2022 Héroe Cabernet Sauvignon

Bottle of 2022 Héroe Cabernet Sauvignon wine.

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is from Frankel Vineyard’s “Puerta Electrica” block in the El Pomar district of Paso Robles, known for its exceptional Paso Robles wine. The aromas are plentiful in their charm, featuring notes of black cherry, raisin, plum, currant, and herbal tea. The classic red fruit characteristics are balanced nicely with mineral earthy notes. Green olive and dill bouquets lead the way to a tannic and puckering finish. The wine feels polished in the mouth, enriched by rich notes of dark coffee and smoked cedar from the new barrels that fill the palate. It’s a delightful Cabernet, ageable, yet tasting great right now, making it a perfect choice for members of the Sculpterra wine club. Best enjoyed during the years of 2023-2028, this ultra premium wine is sure to impress.

2022 Héroe Primitivo

Bottle of Héroe 2022 Primitivo wine from California.

The 2022 Héroe Primitivo is an incredible Paso Robles wine that delivers a ripe red fruit taste, complemented by toasted oak and a generous mouthfeel on the finish. On the nose, you’ll find enticing aromas of candied plums and cherry cola, along with more potent notes of cedar, smoke, and all-spice. The palate is enriched with cherries and the scent of candied red apple. Flavors of marshmallow and salty dark chocolate grace the bouquet. I particularly appreciate the supple tannic grip, which leads to a crisp fruit character and ample acidity. This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb or a classic American hamburger loaded with all the fixings. Well-built and layered with black-fruit flavors, this massive balanced wine also showcases notes of blueberries and black pepper. While this ultra premium wine tastes fantastic when young, it has excellent cellaring potential and will only improve with age. Joining the Sculpterra wine club could provide access to this remarkable vintage and more exceptional wines.

2022 Héroe Pinot Noir

2022 Héroe Pinot Noir

Bottle of 2022 Héroe Pinot Noir from Paso Robles, California.

Our 2022 Héroe Pinot Noir from Paso Robles wine features painted aromas of cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry. Amusing bouquets of garden-fresh herbs, violet, oregano, pepper spices, wet stone, truffle, and mushroom come to life with each sip. The two clones are blended together to perfection; each one shines through, working wonders in the glass. This ultra premium wine has a strong backbone of weighty acidity, giving it a refreshing and pleasant finish. It's medium-bodied, round, balanced, and supple, with a gorgeous garnet-red color in the glass and a moderate alcohol level. After being bottled with ten months of oak barrel aging, it’s young, inviting, and ready to enjoy upon release, making it a great choice for members of the Sculpterra wine club.
